About Us

An Epitome of Higher Buddhist Studies

Sakya College was founded on 19 th December 1972 at Barlowganj in Mussoorie, Dehradun, by His Holiness Sakya Gongma Trichen Rinpoche and Khenchen Appey Rinpoche.

Initially the college was a rented house at Barlowganj and May Cottage for eight long years. In 1980, it was shifted to the present location and has thrived well ever since.

The first Board of members were HH Sakya Gongma Trichen Rinpoche (President), Khenchen Appey Rinpoche (Vice-President), HE Chogye Trichen Rinpoche (member), and HE Luding Khenchen Rinpoche (member).

Though faced with scarcity of funds, but due to the constant support and guidance of these Rinpoches, the College gradually improved and greatly benefitted in the propagation of the Buddha Dharma in general and Sakya Teachings in particular.
